What keeps you going outdoors despite the danger involved?

What do you say to family and friends who think that camping and hiking is dangerous?

"Danger" like bears, serial killers, skinwalkers and the like are somewhere between non-existent and manageable/avoidable.
Danger, like dehydration, disorientation, injury, allergic reactions, poison etc are real but overcome by planning and sense.

Thankfully my family and friends are either into going /out/ or at least understanding

At least where I live black bears and coyotes aren't a threat, and I would be a hell of a lot more perceptive and dangerous than a serial killer running around in the woods

I love exploring the wilderness and being alone. Hiking trails is okay, but there are often a lot of people taking pictures or doing dangerous shit like feeding animals. I don't camp at campgrounds for this reason, bears regularly patrol them.

People tell me all the time that it is dangerous to camp alone, away from campgrounds. Most of the time these people don't understand that campgrounds are likely more dangerous due to other people, but they just need a little lesson. I also tell them what kind of gear I have in the event of an emergency. I also have an SOS device that I carry.

What dangers? Unless you're hiking in the Islamic State or some American national park with tame bears there's no dangers that are not easily manageable with knowledge and planning. The worst I can imagine is falling and breaking my leg in an area with few hikers and no phone coverage.

What a fucking idiot. Got a good view of this big momma and her cubs last time I was there. Some dumb old bitch with a big rig camera kept getting out of her car and trying to get within feet of this bear while her cubs were only feet away in the woods. I kind of wish the bear had attacked her but then it would be put down. Some idiot's gonna get himself killed and ruin a good thing for everyone.
