I need advice for climbing Half Dome illegally without a permit? I lost the Half Dome lottery a dozen times, and I'm driving there in the morning.

You dont need a permit to actually climb it. The hiking route up requires a permit, and the rangers camp the start of the route to catch people like you. Best bet is a night time ascent of the cables

one way I got around the lottery is simply to get a wilderness permit to camp in Little Yosemite Valley. I didn't camp there, but I used my permit as a ticket to climb up half dome and the ranger let me use the cables.

I got the permit at the Wilderness Center next to the Ansal Adams museum

we just went, probably beat you in the lotto. staff is posted a few places on the trail and at the base. two of my buds didnt have permits so i printed out some bullshit from the website and told them to plead ignorant. i think it worked because we were in front of a larger jap group. which is the other way i would reccomend you try..tag along like a tourist with one of the groups and try to slide with them.

They're not afraid of being in the forest you dullard. They'd be more than happy to radio back to headquarters to send a side-by-side in to pick your retarded ass up. Then, deliver you to the local law enforcement waiting at the head of the trail. I am not unfamiliar with how this works.

because it's narrow, steep, polished granite that's slippery as fuck from being constantly wet from spray from vernal falls, and if you blow it you're going 100'+ onto granite boulders. i'm a rock climber and i still wouldn't go up those stairs without the rail, due to the constant water.

This is the real answer, you only need a permit to go UP the cables route. any other route to the top doesn't require a permit(if your doing it in a day) and your allowed to descend the cables as well.

The one time I hiked it, I went up early when it was dead, and on my way back down I passed at least 1000 people on their way up, so no, rings in the wall wouldn't work when there's a constant flow of adults and children alike. Plus, that walkway is only like 50 yards long.
