You can carry a folding knife with blade length <3 inches anywhere with no reason necessary. Cops are cunts though who might hassle you anyways if you have it out though.
You can carry proper knives, axes, etc so longer you have "good reason" ie not for self defence. Just have your camping/fishing/whatever gear on you and don't show the knife off and you'll be a-ok. Also, try not to be where the cops are and it's amazing what sorts of dumbass regulations cease to be relevant.

If you are white and you have a decent reason (camping is considered a good reason) you are fine. There are certain banned knives like balisongs and karambits and other shit. Larger belt knives are in a legal grey area, but common sense prevails. If you have it for camping purposes and your in the wilds no one will question it, and most cops if your decent with them won't bat an eyelid because they know the laws retarded.

Tldr; If you don't live in a city, aren't a criminal, and black or a paki most people will leave it be. White people generally don't stab each other.

There are loads of public pathways, camps, and lots of land that has been unspoilt. Most is in Wales, Scotland, and the North of England, but Cornwall as well has some really wild places and the Orkneys and Shetlands are the definition of wild.
While I'd love for us to have a scandi style system of free roaming, considering how tied the lands are to property rights its not surprising its not allowed.
Also Scandinavia doesn't have large gypsy communities who already abuse the law and under free roaming would have legal rights to just pitch and shit all over the place.

Despite my grandparents coming over from England not that long ago and my mom having dual citizenship I know almost nothing about how things work for you guys except for the loicense memes. I'm gonna go read up it all now, Scotland sounds pretty awesome though. It must suck dealing with gypsies.
In Canada we have national and provincial parks which I think work similarly to yours but we also have what's called crown land, which is just government owned wilderness free to use for anyone. Hunting, shooting, camping, fishing etc etc and There's millions of acres of it all over the place.

Try Wales the Brecon Beacons are a national treasure and just about the prettiest land in Wales outside Snowdonia.

Also one quirk we have is that we can carry a sgian dubh as part of traditional dress, so you could probably get away with a crocodile-dundee-sized bowie knife in your sock if you're wearing a kilt, true scotsman open carry knife larping.

I've erryday carried an Opinel No. 8 for the last thirty years and never had a problem. The fishing gear I keep in my car includes an 8" filleting knife you could shave with and a Mora hanging off my Crewsaver as a safety knife. Again, never had an issue and have been pulled over a few times with it in the car. What constitutes an "offensive weapon" in UK law basically comes down to "what the police say it is". If you brandish a banana in a threatening manner they'll have you on an offensive weapon charge. Use a fishing knife for it's intended purpose and they'll ignore you.
