Hello /out/ from another corner of 4chan, I really think things are going to get shitty soon. I’ve spent quite a lot of time outside in recent months trying to gain some experience, and I’m beginning to realize surviving without modern amenities isn’t fun and would actually suck. I can romanticize things all I want, but I’d probably die, especially with Minnesota’s climate. What are some things that I should get and fields I can get experienced in to prepare for the big one? I have to support a family of 4 who have little to no outdoors experience who believe things will always be fine. I have $1400 to spend.

And sorry that I’m not contributing much here besides “AHHH HELP ME /OUT/“

Fucked, but time spent studying and practicing skills is far more important, gear is mostly providing luxury, beyond a certain point. Get a Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro knife which is the most based ever, featuring a full tang, pummel in the handle, ferro rod, rape whistle, and crude sharpener all built into it, plus a little fold up survival quick reference. Then acquire "Ultimate Guide to Wilderness Living" by the McPhersons and "Outdoor Survival Handbook" by Ray Mears. Adequate sleeping bags for all 4 will toast the rest of your budget, and you'll need a way to stay warm without fire in times that not being detected is critical. Everyone will need proper base, mid, and shell clothing, which ain't goin' to be cheap either. Wool socks, adequate footwear for your wilderness environment in Winter. You'll need a way to carry all this shit (backpacks), and plenty of paracord. A nice lightweight shelter tarp would be great for surprise rains while on the move, but shelter and lot of the rest can be "bushcrafted". That would probably be my suggested minimum, but you'd best get to crackin' on the skills in those books, especially fire, shelter, and food. I'm sure I forgot/left out plenty, but there's a shitload of learning ahead and from that and the suggested books you'll quickly start seeing a lot of where you need to be going.

Let's take a second and think about history before you go spend a lot of time and money. What is the specific scenario you are preparing for? Is it a scenario based on fact, or is it based on fiction?

All modern people secretly yearn for the destruction of modernity. Its a corruption and denial of our nature . It's a repulsive state for man. Completely lacking in purpose and dignity.

But modernity will not be destroyed. It's far too robust. Think about history. It only goes one way. Reversions are just tiny hiccups. There is no longer a scenario where we revert. There is too much to be gained by redoing any progress lost.

Think about the real estate market in 2008 or so. The system had a catastrophic, cascading failure. But that wasn't the start of the end, people just used it as an opportunity. They bought a bunch of cheap houses and resold them for profit. See what I mean? No matter how much damage you do, people will build it back up again.

The only path is forward. People don't yet know what that path is yet. They are looking. They have a long way to go. So humanity in general might be a long ways off from it, bit that doesn't mean you have to be.

The path forward isn't in preparing for a scenario that will never happen. It's in reaching a state of being closer in line with your nature. Come to understand what that really means, and try to help others see it too.

Once certain pillars of the store goods supply chain are disrupted, people will be eating people. All it would take (and there are many other potential points of triggering failure) would be gas shortage or expense. If people can't "get to work" then even if trucks are still running then lots of places will be shut down. Always remember that everywhere we "get stuff" and every place essential to "keeping things running" is staffed by plain ol' people, and with just the right amount of chaos they will be cowering in fear like everyone else.

Honestly, the best way to prep is to start with financial stuff. Turn your back yard into a garden and start growing and canning most of your own food to help you save money and have food available if shipping routes stop running. Get proficient at fishing and bring home a couple nights' dinners every week. Use the money you save to put in solar panels, further reducing your costs and providing power if there's an issue with the grid. Pay off all your debt, starting with the highest interest rate loans you have, so you don't have to worry about losing your home if you lose your job due to economic turndown.

The worst case scenario now is that you retire earlier and live longer with more money.

Anon if this isn't a shitpost and your genuinely serious, then one look up the Mormon food stores program.
It's a very useful program that is free, which will help you come up with a food safety plan in case of economic collapse.
Next is finding a way to have access to a store of water, and also a way to purify/collect more water.
Afterwards, seeds of heirloom hardy plant species that grow well in your area/zone and also start planting a garden beforehand, fruits, etc. Our relatives used to commonly have gardens and orchards for a reason.
Raise animals, like rabbits or chickens or both. This also provides fresh food, as well as trade goods.
Next is electricity production, you will want to get your hands on a set of solar panels and a way to energize the most necessary of your items.
Finally defense, get a common calibre rifle you can use for hunting or defense, and learn how to use it. Also shotgun for multiple use, they don't need to be new, or cool, but you need to know how to use them.
Learn how to fix things, or have a good garden, IE other useful skills, in the event you survive a full economic collapse, people aren't going to need bankers or lawyers, but they will need barbers.

Probably because you associate prepping with the idiots that think the entire world is going to end and have a twenty-year stockpile of beans, rice and .556 but lack the common sense to actually live their lives, focusing solely on what they'd have IF a very particular natural or unnatural disaster occurred.

Where I live, the most anyone ever needs is a generator and enough fuel, food and drinking water to last a couple of weeks, because all that ever happens here is winter power outages, followed by idiots buying out the grocery stores because despite this happening almost every winter, they all act like the world is ending every time it happens.
