How good are these things really? I have an adeaquate folding blade knife and am looking into getting a fixed blade for the heavier duty outdoors stuff. If I were to go Mora what which one would I get?

You better define heavier duty first. Mora knives are great for their purpose, which is not to be used as a makeshift axe and baton wood.

I have a Mora Robust carbon steel knife as a safety knife on my lifejacket. That muthafucka holds an edge like a razor, though it's a twat to sharpen in the first place. It does get black carbon scoring on the blade though.

The Garbage is made for heavy duty. They're alright.

You can get cheaper things that are better. The MT-151 Trail Master clone is a better beater and with a much more useful blade length.

The MT-151 is arguably far better value if you want a heavy duty knife, as the Garberg isn't cheap for a Mora, and the 9.5 inch blade comes in handy for chopping.

It's Chink shit, which might turn some off, but the point above still stands.

I've used the Mora classic for years now. These 2 were bought at the same time because I half expected it to break and I knew I wanted to mod it, take the paint off, file the spine and I wanted a backup

In that case, Moras are based & cheap & super easy to to sharpen. You CAN get a "better" product by spending more, in the same way that a fancier fountain pen will have better ink flow than a cheaper fountain pen, but the difference is negligible.
