So I don’t know what changed in me but I really need to get away and be /out/. I don’t know where to start with this hot ass weather though.

Any tips for hot /out/ings? Pretty new to outdoors but I like bouldering.

Sounds pretty good when compared to 90-100% humidity and 90s temps that this summer had. People died.

It gets around 110-115 and not that it’s insurmountable, just not reasonable for a casual hike or climb. People always die here but mostly because they are dumb and don’t bring enough water or stay under the sun too long. The biggest different in dry heat and humidity is that with dry heat it doesn’t spread out. The shade is about 10 degrees cooler while with humidity it’s about 3-4.

I camp quite a bit. Head north to flagstaff, Prescott, or Sedona. At least there’s trees and water to cool off

She’s got a lot of anxiety and such. Has a hard time with new situations. She’s open to trying new things but for her a big leap from “same old places, same old routes” would just sour the trip.

Anywhere in the mountains, preferably higher than 2000m (6,600ft), has pretty nice weather in summer. A large section of central, east-central and northern AZ are higher than this.

I grew up in AZ but haven't been back in decades. We used to just get on 10 and drive out past the White Tank Mountains for 10-30 minutes until we found a random turn off that we'd take out into the desert as far as we could. Then we'd hoof it to a mountain, find a nice plateau high enough on the mountain where you get a breeze and set up a tent and a tarp for shade.

Then we'd just hang out under the tarp, drink massive amounts of Gatorade and smoke weed.

Its best if you leave late in the day so that the sun is going down shortly after you make camp. Then hike out in the morning when its not super hot yet. We did that all the fucking time in the summer when I was a teenager.

I can understand the nothern type vistors wanting to return to a pine forest cool hike n all.
But if you are in desert just hike the desert, its unbelievably beautiful in its own way. Native people ( Papago Pima Hohokam) lived hunted gathered n shit here for thousands of years.
Carry enuf water and keep a head cover hat or bandanna. Dont go out too far because the hike back is always harder. Watch out for rattlers n loose rocks. Also illegals n drug trafficking shitholers. Its a free open carry/concealed carry state so do carry a small fun just in case you run into some dipshit illegal or meth camp. Look up how many hikers got murdered in the area you're going to be hiking in, also how many people go missing too. Pack accordingly. Kill or be killed fren. Az makes boys into men. Think Mad Max/Fallout.

AZ is one of the best /out/ states ever. In the summer get above 6600ft and it's the perfect out weather. As it starts cooling off, bring your /out/ to lower elevations.

For Tucson area, Mt Lemmon between Catalina and Sabino is perfect for summer. As it starts cooling off, spend time in Saguaro/Catalina/Sabino.
Avoid Mt. Graham; went there a few weeks ago and it was terrible. Skunks everywhere.
If you are in Phoenix, you have Payson, Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona and all the areas in between. Not much experience with Phoenix /out/ in winter.

Yeah dude, you have no idea what hot is until you've been in 120 degree ambient air temperature, with a cloudless sun heating your clothes to 130 and the wind to 110. "Convection oven" doesn't begin to describe it.

Gets even worse if there's a lot of white sand or volcanic rock around. Ground temperature gets above 150 degrees easily, and the sunlight reflects back up into your face. Aside from it exacerbating the heat, it can blind you without polarized glasses

I have always asserted that June is hotter than July because of the ultra low humidity, just for this reason! Try riding an air cooled motorcycle with that air blasting your calves. People disagree with me because the humidity in July is harder for some, but with that June sun beaming down on your noggin and the asphalt @140°F, it gets HOT.

Used to day trip up to 4-peaks from Mesa. Was cooler up top and not far from town.

That was 20 years ago...shouldn’t have changed much, it was a national forest or something.
