>>1600091Have you ever met some of these people? Half of them aren't even mentally ill, just lazy and unfortunate. They don't want to work, they live in a car and beg on a highway corner. I saw a woman beg from her car for more than 6 months straight, in front of an entire shopping center of businesses hiring. She only stopped because the police removed her from the people complaining. A month later, a new guy was there. And I certainly hope you aren't calling oregon a republican state. And my point is the current political sphere could really do some good, try and get the mental health system working again, but they don't do a thing. I haven't heard a peep about the supermajority doing anything of value about the homeless, just terrible stopgap measures. Blaming republicans from the reagan era is just a tired and lazy excuse. And you know what? Those "progressive" leaders in portland and Salem came up with the same solution, buying tickets for vagrants to the smaller towns in the surrounding area. Those progressive leaders also enable the homeless, make it a comfortable and feasable existance. Hell, San Francisco has the government sanctioned shoot up huts and free needles, and those solutions were Being discussed here. We already have food, shelter, and places willing to put up with them indefinitely. We should not be actively encouraging a destructive lifestyle.
