Is iodized salt really necessary?

Salt is obviously critical to life, especially after SHTF/survival situations, and it's obviously much easier to store non-iodized salt for long-term, versus iodized, which only has a shelf life of about 5 years.
But iodine is also critical to life, so is it worth stocking iodized salt over plain salt? What other food sources provide iodine?
