You must understand, they were staring because it's probably been weeks since they'd seen someone from out of town at the bar - especially if you were there after the kitchen closed. And it's very possible they've never seen an asian before. I didn't see my first one until I went to college. That staring is generally just not knowing what to say to strangers. If you'd started a conversation or even just silently cheers'd the guys while they were staring you could have made some friends.
