Do I need some kind of license or registration to go boating in Germany? From what I understand you're OK as long as you stick with kayaks, canoes or dinghies (under 5HP).

No. All you need is physical capabilities and resources and you can do what the fuck you want.

What is a registration going to do to protect you from commercial traffic doing big boy stuff. A registration is just a fancy word for a tax
