I'm moving to the UK in a couple of days and am wondering about the camping opportunities. Is it only far in the north that you can find isolated wild areas? Can I camp in those areas of natural beauty? Any UK anons here that know the ropes? Or Euro-anons that can tell us all about continental camping? I'm clueless and will be very sad if I cant fuck off during my downtime.

I've been to the Lake District & Dartmoor in England which were pretty decent and have the added bonus of being one of the places you can legally wild camp. Can't speak to the rest but I know there are swathes of the country where it's pretty shit, southeast in particular.
Wales is also decent with Snowdonia & the Brecon Beacons though I can't remember the legality of wild camping. Same situation as England in regards to trespassing though, most people don't mind if you say you're just hiking but stick roughly on the trails.
Scotland has some of the best country in all of Europe. Trossachs is beautiful but a bit touristy for me, the Cairngorms are utterly fantastic and like another world, but muh right to roam means you can go basically anywhere on the country and so long as you're heading north and/or West you'll do just fine in Scotland. Walkhighlands.co.uk is a great resource.
I've heard nice things about Ireland though I've never been, and remember you.have the whole of Europe at most a few hours flight away. No need to go /out/ in the UK just because you live there.

Scotland is the only area with right to roam, you can camp anywhere that isn't fenced off or with specific reasons not to there. The other large areas, eg. Dartmoor, Exmoor, Lake districts, Peak district, are controlled and your not allowed to camp on them outside of specific sites, in practice they allow single tents that don't stay more than a night or two in out of the way places but have the laws to stop people taking advantage as unfortunately nowhere is more than a few hours from civilisation and they would be filled with Gypsies and Hipster run business ventures ruining what wilderness we have left otherwise. We have amazing /out/ but most of it, other than the very remotest Scottish part, is too close to civilisation.

Dartmoor is nice. The MoD do a lot of training down there, if you fancy a laugh you can hunt through a forest for some snipers in their ghillie suits, and piss on them. They aren't allowed to react if they're on a training op.

my sister has a cabin on airbnb just 10min taxi/2hour walk from an international airport in norway but in the forest with hiking and fishing right outside. she regulary gets visitors from the rest of europe who just want a weekend away from city life. also check out cabin rental on inatur.no (dont know if they have a english version) or the wast number of open and free to use public cabins along the hiking trail network. the bigger and more popular ones are manned and serve hot meals and cold beers. or just bring a tent.

I am in Essex but going anywhere else for trips will not be a problem. I only brought my modular sleep system and a bivy for shelters, no stealth camping possible in the rural areas around here?

You've got to come to the realization that it's going to be much more domesticated than what you are used to. With that being said there are really good opportunities for camping in the Southwest and Cornwall, Norfolk Coast, Forest of Dean, Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia and Northern Wales, and then Scotland with the wildest parts being North and the outer Hebrides.

That said most isolated parts are going to be those parts if the Hebrides.

No free camping in England too, so if you want to do that you either need to get permission, go to a campground, or stealth camp.

Scotland is like Scandinavia, it has all mans law and you can camp overnight anywhere that isn't near to dwellings.

As for eurocamping, France and Spain are fun, Scandinavia is really nice with lots of good camping in Norway and Finland.

is that what some people think? to understand nordic all mans right and what we mean when we say we camp and hike where we want you need to understand our autistic and antisocial behaviour. we dont want to camp or hike within sight or sound range of other people so that is never an issue to us, we just put some limitations in the law so people dont start pushing the limits. but foreigners either dont understand it and wants to camp in our garden or they know about the limitations in the law but have to look at a map and measure the distance to the nearest house and google wether it was 150m or 200m minimum distance. and even then they put up their tent in plain sight of my kitchen window right over the road i use when i go down to my boat.

Look into the national trails, north downs, south downs, pennine way, coast to coast etc.

Illegal wild camping has it's own fun to it, but if that's not your speed there are heaps of camp sites as well as farm land where the owners will let you camp for a very small fee.

Dartmore, peak district, lake district all fun. And Scotland of course.

Northwest is where you want to be. There's some of the best wilderness in western europe, and plenty of mountaineering/alpinism opportunities if that's your thing. It's not dissimilar from Scandi, just smaller.

In some national parks (Snowdonia, Beacons, Lakes, Peaks, Dales, Dartmoor) it's tolerated, but landowners still technically have the right to ask you to move (not that they ever do). Everywhere else you've got to be discrete. Stick to the above, camp out of sight of roads/buildings/busy footpaths and you'll be fine.

The last one is important because you can literally get the train from London to the Pyrenees or the Alps. Flying is cheaper but can be a pain if you're going to bring climbing gear or whatever.

Again, wrong. Wild camping isn't legal in the Trossachs NP in Scotland, and is technically illegal in all of England and Wales apart from Dartmoor. In areas like the Beacons it is tolerated, however, as long as you do it on open access land, out of sight of any roads, buildings and major footpaths.

There are some places you can't make fires because they are pete marshes and flammable. All land is officially owned by someone and considered private property so while technically you can camp and get away with it, you could also be moved on for trespassing.

The best thing is to look into local camping/survival/wilderness forums for the area you are visiting and see where others go.

You're not going to get arrested for camping nor will you get shot/attacked.

Worst you will get is some farmer shining a flashlight at you and asking what the fuck you're doing at 2am, to which you can reply "I am camping and I'll be gone tomorrow, if you want I can leave" you can offer them money to stay or just move like all of 200m to a new spot.

There's plenty of places to camp, just because it's not "legal" doesn't mean you will be arrested. It's all civil unless you are the kind of retard that argues back and refuses to move on if asked.
