I never grew up hunting, I do go fishing and backpacking quite often and am fairly experienced with the outdoors.
but now I would love to get into hunting but am lost on how to really do it. I know I need to get a loiscence, tags, gear, etc. But if I don't have access to private land and have to hunt on public land how does it work? Can I just go out to a national forest with a rifle, go off trail and just find an animal and as long as it's in season and I have the tags and shoot it?
