depend on how long i'm /out/ for. just a half day i carry my 18l backpack, but for multiday winter trips i bump up to carrying my 75l backpack. for real quick hikes i'll just carry a camera.

I carry a tent, sleeping bag, insulated air mat, stove, pot, fuel, food, a hydration bladder, water filter, extra socks and underwear, an extra insulating layer, rain gear, toiletries, a first aid kit, electronics, personal documents, a map, compass, and a pair of trekking poles. I'd reckon most folks wouldn't want to stand in the way of a 40gr projectile traveling at 1000fps, but I'd recommend something bigger if crackheads or druggies are of concern. I carry a 9mm (147gr JHP @ 1000fps, 3" bbl) and more recently a .40sw (180gr JHP @1050 fps, 3.5" bbl).

My point is that I can't just assume I'm safe anymore just because I don't live around a lot of black people. I've never disputed that blacks murder people once in this thread. If I lived the city, I'd be more worried about a black guy murdering me. In West Virginia it was a 12 ga, course I was always /out/ hunting something. Flexibility to do a birdshot hello (common, I've been shot a couple times with this from far off), or a slug fuck off.

i walked all around yellow stone, Bear tooth highway. Even went up HellRoaring Plateu, And many other areas in Wyoming All alone.

With nothing but my small mora knife. I also talked to myself a lot. And yelled at Bears to come face me.

That was enough to make them all stay away. Besides even if i had my shotgun (which no fucking way im carrying that on my 5 hr hikes up the mountains) it would be pretty fucking hard to land a good shot to put that bear down. Best thing to do is just make a lot of noise, be autistic and talk to yourself and the woods. And randomly yell if there is any bears out there. They hate autist so just shoo away when they hear me / you.

well, any snub-nose is going to be more uncomfortable, but it's obviously easier to carry. I would not recommend if this is your first pistol, only because you'll need trigger time to hit anything beyond bad breath distance and even then.

For an /out/ gun, the 3in with the exposed hammer was really fun with 38s. That would also be an easier gun to learn on because the sights don't suck.
