Its /out/ because it really doesnt need any special equipment, less than rock climbing in horizontal caves. So in that aspect, its not specialized equipment compared to scuba diving or rock climbing.
Its just a natural hole in the ground, its not man made. Its just really about exploring and see what few have seen, you also get away from people too.
