How would you go for mapping a new trail? None of that gps app shit. It's a private land. Paper, pencil and?

I'd go to the land registry and see if theres a map already available.
Get a friend, some straight sticks and a theodolite
Invest in some tracing paper and draw an overlay on the existing map.
Scan it. Digitally ink and use some GIS software to check its accurate.

It’s called Route Sketching. Kephart has a whole chapter in his book on it. I dumped the pages here a couple of years ago and will do again if any anons are interested. Basically you figure out how many double paces it takes for you to do 100m or yards. After that with a compass you just shoot a bearing and count places towards it. Record it in a book. It’s one of my favourite things to do while /out/. Pic is my stuff.

Not OP but what is the book you're talking about? I've been interested in trail mapping and land surveying for a while but I haven't been able to find anything online that doesn't involve GPS or electronic equipment in general.

Pic related is the view from my trip up a mountain yesterday.

United States, Washington state, the mountain was about 7000ft I think? Had to bike 8 miles just to get to the trail, then bushwack through 2 miles of an over grown trail. Saw a bear, and a couple of mountain goats up there. also the flowers were crazy nice this time of year. didn't take too many pictures cause Im usually focused on enjoying myself rather than taking pictures.
