as everyone in this thread is saying it depends on your activity, fitness, etc..
anything above 35-40 pounds will be too much for several days waliking
If you're out for a specific reason (photo, climbing, etc...) you may go above that and walk an hour or so, rest, and start again.
If you have a stationnary camp, you can go heavy because all you're doing is getting your stuff to a spot and then operating from there. If you're on a thru-hike, you neeed a weight you can carry for days on end, no more than 20% bodyweight, and that's pushing it.
