Got it in 2000, before the prices of new jeeps skyrocketed and every dickhead bought a new one.
Capable? Not stock. They came with street tires, open diffs., no traction control, and 3.07 gears. I lifted it 5 inches and put 33x12.5 Swamper TSL’s on it and 5th gear (manual transmission because I’m not a homosexual) was literally useless. Like on the highway if you shifted into 5th you’d just slow down.
Pretty soon after I put a Ford 8.8” rear axle (Dana 35 is absolute fucking garbage; saw 3 break off-road), 4.56’s, and a Detroit in the rear and a TruTrac in the front. The TruTrac work surprisingly well.
Lots of other stuff too; slip yoke eliminator kit, rear disk breaks (my donor axle came with drums), a gas pedal shaped like a foot. I never did get rock rails or lights or anything.
It’s all fun but just too expensive. Plus I’d rather spend the weekend hiking than driving through the woods.
