What's the highest altitude you've ever been?

For me, it's about ~2800 meters at the Stelvio Pass in Italy.

was kinda neat seeing the equpment and stuff and how a ski resort looks without the snow.

Demanding but not technically challenging, glacial experience makes it easier. The hike up to the glacier made me suffer more, once on crampons I was as happy as a pig in high altitude mud. Keep a steady pace so you can keep on breathing normally, don't go too fast even if you can because you'll miss the sunrise. Also, there's fixed ropes for the initial icewall, the bigass crevasse after that, and the final summit wall; pretty exposed and potentially rather windy.

Also, don't forget to carefully pet the wild snowcocks in basecamp, they're pretty tame.

~4200m in CO. Not a special peek but as someone from sea level, spending 10 days bewteen 3000m-4500m was awesome. Definetly made me appreciate properly acclimating.

That's really surprising its so low, just because the alps are right there and all.
My. Charleston ski resort (45 minutes from down town Las Vegas) is like 11,916 ft.
And downtown Las Vegas is about 2,000 ft.

Tonto, and Alpine for several months at a friend's cabin. Highest point in Flagstaff city limits is 7,250 I believe, Greer is 8,400, Pinetop-Lakeside has houses at 7,250 by the country club, while some cabins on the Rim are at 7,500 (most are between 6,500-7,000 tho), there are also isolated cabins above 7,500 in Gila county (including southern section). The transition from the Rim country to the White Mountains tops out at around 9350 then dips back down to 7,000-8,000 until you get closer to Mt Baldy area. I've been wanting to peak Baldy and Humphreys but haven't really had the time.

I hiked pikes peak in July, it wasn't too bad actually.

2228m when I was 16 as a pre-Kokoda track "challenge" my military uncle made me do with him.

Thanks for the response, this is great advice I’ve been looking to move to central and eastern Arizona for some time so I could still be close to my family in Phoenix but still have cold and snow. It’s interesting to see that none of the cabins in flagstaff go as high as some of the rim and gila county cabins. Do you know where in gila county? I’ve been looking at that area in specific.

Best areas for cabins near Phoenix are just below the Rim or on the Rim (from Happy Jack to Show Low), Bradshaw mts near Prescott, and central/northern Gila co (cabins above in Gila 7500 are in Mazatzal, Pinal and Sierra Ancha mts; hard to buy nowadays). Payson, Young, and Prescott have land that isn't too expensive for building cabins on and get around 20 inches of snow in winter (are all at 5,000ft roughly). Young is only reached by winding mountain dirt roads tho so your building options are limited by what you can bring over the pass.

Went over 5k meters a few times on the Ausangate trek in Peru as well. 6k is on my bucket list, but I'm not sure where would be the best option that is not too technical. I know that there is volcano hike near Arequipa, Peru, which takes you that high, but I'd rather see a different country.

Damn that’s beautiful out there, Young looks good for getting off the grid and I had no idea about the roads. What do you think about the Mazatzal Mountains Area? I took my dad out to the border with my UTV to the mazatzal wilderness area recently to look at some trail heads and was shocked about not seeing a single person and the huge amount of manzanita’s. What’s the closest land you can buy to that out there?

Pretty much most of western Gila county is like that except in the low valleys and Roosevelt lake basin and areas above ~ 6,000ft which are mostly conifer forests, the Manzanita brush zone is usually at ~ 4,000-5,000ft (pic related is Pinal mountains foothills today). The eastern side of the Mazatzals is pretty nice, the problem is that it's hard to find land for sale up in them now (the old cabins were built a long time ago). The closest area with land available for purchase to the Mazatzals is probably the area southwest of Payson. Although the area northwest of Payson is a little bit nicer climate-wise, Pine and Strawberry, which are closer to the Rim than the Mazatzals. Christopher Creek is also nice, but farther east and just below the Rim.
