Vancouver anon reporting in. There was a time not long ago when 1/2 of the Chinese population were wearing these during Vancouver winter. Most days were +5or7'C. Maybe there is another grade of these parkas but the ones I saw were not very impressive. Anything that will keep you warm in Yellowknife would just kill you with heat in a Lower Mainland winter.

They use parkas from Canada Goose on arctic expeditions, so yeah, as long as you buy the ones built more for practicality than for fashion. Those bombers are only TEI3 tho, you'll want TEI5 for Yellowknife.
Honestly if she cares more about warmth than fashion/branding (which she probably doesn't) you can get much cheaper parkas that are just as cozy if you look around. I've been wearing a $90 Dakota parka for years and it's kept me comfortable enough at -54 windchill with a flannel shirt under it.

Helly Hansen makes pretty gud garb for wammins. If you buy something like this you can use the savings to put towards base layers or some decent sweaters so she can layer and stay proper toasty.
I haven't used this one personally on account of not having two X chromosomes but the reviews are extremely positive and it makes the model look like the michelin man which is always a good sign.

Ehh working there is alright, but if you don't have a decent job there is no reason to stay. I wore a 90s canadagoose jacket in -55c and it was good and kept me warm.

You need to layer up properly for extreme weather. You can't just buy the most expensive "expedition jacket" on the market and expect it to solve all your problems. To maximise heat retention, get a thick wool or synthetic base layer (long sleeve shirt and tights), followed by a heavy fleece. As for pants, the best are insulated bib pants. You probably also want 2 layers of socks (synthetic or wool) and some good winter boots, and insulated mitts with liner gloves underneath.

I work for the USAP and we use Canada Goose as our "Big Red" ECW. They are quite good. I work outside in that shit weather eleven hours a day sometimes and the thing performs pretty well as long as you're smart with your layers. Bear in mind I'm not interested in wintering over so I never expose myself to the really extreme shit so I wouldn't be able to tell you. Mac can actually be pretty balmy sometimes big red can be a bit overkill.

If you're going to be moving around (hiking, skiing, skating, most kinds of /out/) parkas are too bulky and you will overheat in them. Make a layering/delayering system instead

That's funny. I ~might~ be moving to yellowknife for work to. My gf is not digging the idea, but she's willing to have a conversation about it. I think it's pretty cool of a girl to agree move to such a masculine place at all, if you need to buy her something to make the transition a little easier that's not such big deal imo.
To put it in perspective I couldn't be convinced to move somewhere with distinctly fem character like LA for example, no matter WHAT my gf offered to buy me.

If we move I'll probably get her a dog or something. She likes animals.

As an LA native it's always funny to me to see people's perception of what LA is like. There's maybe one or two neighborhoods that have the "feminine" character but it's not like SF or NYC or whatever where everybody's a metrosexual, and the vast majority of the area is made up of generic suburbs that could be anywhere. It'd actually be a pretty cool place if it weren't for the retarded laws and stupid cost of living, I don't know of any other major city that has such a variety of /out/ shit within easy driving range.
