Whatcha reading /out/? I got this guide to clouds and weather that's pretty interesting. Grabbed some field guides on trees too.
Book recs of any kind are welcome as I'll need some stuff to read to get me through the winter.

Interesting, I feel like it always rains when I go to Sedona. Here’s a photo from my last trip there. Anyways I started reading Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey, (some of the other southwest anons on here recommended it to me) and it’s pretty good so far. I laughed my ass off at the part when he saw two snakes having sex and it was a life changing experience.

Pic related got me into tracking, and being vigilant for tracks totally changed my experience of the woods. Winter is a great season for tracking too if you live somewhere snowy.

Tom Brown is a certified nut, and he exaggerates his abilities a lot, but his books still have some good information. Don't get distracted by all of the new age mystical bullshit that he also writes about.

Some Anon here quoted the intro to this (written by someone else) in the /out/ quotes thread (I think). I bought a rather worn used copy for very little and have been blown away by the sections on childhood memories and the walk to the Gulf. All I previously knew of him was essentially what was in the Ken Burns "Our National Parks" doc, which was *plenty* impressive, but I now see him for the superhuman he actually was. If all you know of Muir was his /out/ings in CA, you are missing a *lot*. I've also been re-reading Walden.

I've been reading pic relateds this year. Gives me a much deeper understanding of my local history, the landscape and wilderness the colonists braved their way into, and the culture and societies of the Indians who used to inhabit the land. It's been quite an enriching experience, and somewhat horrifying as well.
