I’ve seen all 5 species of venomous snakes in Louisiana. Technically there are 7, but 2 haven’t been seen in decades (though Texas coral snakes and harlequin coral snakes look the same to me).
Anyway, if you do anything /out/ here from late “winter” until “fall” (quote marks because it’s 87° today) there’s a high probability of seeing a snake. Cotton mouths and copperheads are both very, very common.
With all of that, the only real encounter I had was with a 4’ long, solid green non-venomous thing that literally chased me.
