How do you find the time to get /out/

Going on the on weekends is nice but after counting driving time that usually means only enough time to be innawoods for an overnighter. And holiday weekends means huge crowds of people.
How do you find time for longer, extended duration trips /out/?

I take my 2 weeks consecutively and then take 2 weeks unpaid at my leisure having given advance notice. often I'll combine the two during a slow month and just take the whole month off, essentially being paid half time.

No vacation leave is required in the USA.

Sick leave is required in the USA, but not that you be paid for it. Just that they allow you to go home when they'd rather you be working. In my (incredibly progressive) state you get to work for paid sick leave (up to 48hr a year, you get like an hour for every 40 worked) and if you call off sick on a day you were scheduled (can't just use it when you weren't scheduled beforehand, like scheduling a vacation) they don't have to pay you. You also must submit the request to be paid in writing at every job I've worked, and usually require a doctor's note.

Save up enough so you can afford to take time off. Wagie job pays $8/hr, $7 after taxes, x16hours is $116. Put that in a savings account and when you've reached it request monday and tuesday off. Four-day weekend. And unless you're dogshit at your job even mcdonalds won't fire you before giving you that time off (just don't do it too often).

So heres what i kind of have always done growing up moving around a lot. Rather than planning a trip to somewhere exotic that requires a lot of time, money, and effort to go do, I just move every couple of years. It doesn't have the freedom of movement of dudevanlifelmao, but it gets you further than a half day drive from where you live. As for work schedule you can take jobs with non traditional work schedules. Some places are going to every other Friday off, or shift work with a number of days on then a number of days off. I have family in medicine that work 3 12hr shifts every weekend and then can do whatever the other 4 days. Of course if you're looking for a multi month outing you can plan those in between moves. Then most of the time you get to live in a house with modern amenities, then spend 3 months hiking the rockies or something. Kind of the best of both worlds imo as long as you dont fancy buying a house.

The entire reason I was pulled into the assignment was because work was going too slow. Higher ups did not like my response as to why. Nobody on-site had firing authority.

I don't ever get to go /out/ anymore, I fell for the homesteading meme and finding people to take care of the animals is impossible. At best I can take the kids fishing/camping at a little park for the weekend about an hour from home and eventhen Iwaste half the time driving home to feed the animals. Hell we don't even raise that much food to make it worth it, but I want my kids growing up with animals like I did in order to teach them responsibility.

About std for private industry in AZ, USA. Except a veeerrry generous Holiday pkg. I'll get around 10, depending including "floaters" to fill off days like a monday if The Forth is on a Tuesday. Sick time is more lenient, but accrues.

I struggle along, especially given the shitty nature of retail over here. In theory we get 28 days of holiday a year but no more than 2 members of staff can be on holiday from my department at any one time. Combine that with the "red zone" knocking out about a quarter of the year (cant have holidays in the red zone) and you really start to struggle to get a holiday in any decent summer weather.
If im lucky I can take my 2 off days in the week and go overnighting someplace.

if one of my workdays lands on a public holiday I get to take a day off in lieu, so I usually save a couple up and take a 4 day weekend once in a while for a bigger camping trip or a road trip.
also everyone gets compulsory paid leave every year, 4-6 weeks usually depending on your country. I usually split that up for multiple 1-week camping trips through the year, for music festivals or to travel internationally.
