If you have time and are currently in or near Croatia, you might want to take a couple of hours and drive to Petrova Gora. Me and the boys just snagged around 150kg of Boletus Edulis aka Porcini. Get them while they're fresh!

Porcini are delightful. I like to dehydrate and grind into a powder, the put powder into shakers. It's a nice topping for ramen, pizza, pasta.

tradition. eastern europe for the most part hasnt been gripped by the casino reward schedule dopamine drip plague of modern society so they can still enjoy things like mushroom foraging. go watch a random American drive down a street. They have like 6 things going on at once....vape, iced coffee, music, phone, etc

You are wasting so much flavor. Dice em up and pack in salt to suck out all the juices let sit in these juices overnight so it gets good and broke down then add seasonings of your choice, i like garlic clove bay and rosemary in mine but flavor as you prefer (go light they cook in quite heavily) put in about a cup of apple cider vinegar per pound of mushrooms and bring to a boil, keep boiling until it has reduced down to just over where it was before the vinegar. Strain it, dehydrate the solids and grind into amazing seasoned mushroom powder, keep the liquid as a sauce similar in flavor but with more of a vinegary tange, goes well on literally everything.

Went out yesterday to search a 53 acre clump of trees for sheepshead, found exactly 1 that was so small I left him. The entire clump had been picked over already and this is in a fairly remote area outside a town of 3000. Hell every spring theres a morel buyer in every grocery store, don't get that if theres no mushroom hunting.

Yes. Although most tend to stick to just a few species for some reason. It's such a big part of our culture that it has even mad it into our folklore. For example in Kentucky morels are sometimes called "merkels" a bastardization of miracles because of a folk story in which a family was set to starve to death but was saved by the unusual abundance of morels popping up just in time to save them.

Mostly just morels since they're super easy to identify, even the "false morels" look almost nothing like the real deal. I hear in many european countries, pharmacists are trained to identify them. If we had that here, I'd definitely do it a lot more. I love mushrooms.

Got my licence in under a month and for free so I don't know what you're talking about. Also nobody will care if they find you in the forest since locals pillage them anyway. Just don't get carried away like we did. 2kg per person per day is the norm. Anything above is punishable so watch out.

There are reserves here too, off course, and they are mild, maybe because there are so many of them.

I just enjoy the outdoors and hanging out with my dad and the stories that are told on the long walks.There are few feels better than the sighting of a jurček which is cosily nested in the litterfall

In the French part you are allowed to gather one 10l bucket without a permit.
For own use only.
In Flanders it is not allowed but everyone does it.
Be smart and do it before 08.00 or after 18.00 when the "boswachter" is off duty and only during weekdays.
Ghater only what you need and do not destroy anything.
