Honest question. What do you guys use to dig your catholes? I'm thinking about getting a mil surplus foldable shovel. Was wondering if there were better alternatives out there.

If all you're doing is shitting in a hole, a good garden trowel is all you need. An e-tool is just overkill and a lot of extra weight and bulk.

I used to use a garden trowel I had laying around. It did the trick very well.

Then I googled for light trowels, and found the Deuce of Spades. It's not even 20 grams. Not as comfortable to grip as the garden trowel, but the weight saving is substantial. Handles roots and rocks. It's kinda pricey though.

Maybe. I chose to not go full UL on the tent, mattress, and sleeping bag, to get some extra comfort. So I shave off weight on other things.
