>>1627186Depending on the hardness can help identify it, its harder than class so you cant have a carbonate and cancels out calcite and pretty much any micca. It also makes Quartzite a pretty good candidate.
That "rusty" looking layer or crack. If you look closer can you see if it was a possible layer in the rock that was deposited before lithified? Or is it a crack that acumulated iron oxide because of the other minerals it was around.
If you look really close, you might be able to see grains, cracks, and clevage planes. Depending on these really depends on what type of rock or mineral you found.
