Bullets are small and rely on hydrostatic shock, loss of blood pressure and typically blood loss as an after though.
When bullets kill immediately, it’s because they hit an organ vital to life (brain, heart, nervous system).
A spear or arrow or arrow introduces such a large wound cavity (larger than a bullet makes) that death through blood loss is likely to happen very fast. Anything that can cause death quickly and efficiently could be considered “humane”.
One reason people stopped using spears and arrows is because guns became faster to shoot and had a longer range. You were able to keep a bigger distance between yourself and your target (potentially dangerous human or animal).
If someone wants to use a spear, get close to dangerous prey and risk their own life, who are you stop them?
