Some places will just require a small fee to get a basic permit. Other places will require you to stay in specific spots. You make up your mind how to proceed, but it's always good to know the rules. If you are heading out to camp in low traffic areas then read up on proper camp site selection and make sure you don't go causing damage due to your ignorance.
