Been gearing up for the winter season, planning to be out a lot. Was looking around for beanies today to finish off my clothing and I think I'll be going with one of Fjallraven's that I saw on REI. Relatively cheap for a wool beanie.

I got a fjallraven beanie and it was pretty shit quality. The knit was loose and the wind went right through it.
I'd look for a pre shrunk boiled wool hat.

I’ve got an Outdoor Research “pub cap” as my winter headgear and it’s nice and warm (also has a fold out ear flap) while still classy for urban wear.

I've got a mid weight 100% cashmere beanie that i wear most of the time. Warm enough, really fuckin soft and comfy. Then i have a fjallraven lambswool hat which is too hot 90% of the time, makes my head itch unless it's really cold.
Absolutely fucking love my cashmere one though, it's not an outdoor gear hat, but it works well for hiking

M43 field cap reproduction. Buttons can be undone and flaps come down to keep ears warm. I understand how this hat started with the Austrian mountain troops pre-Hitler. Affordable too without any offensive insignia. All wool except for liner.

I'm a traditionalist.
When I've got to wear a helmet I go with a Pure wool Monmouth cap -Like a beanie with a little loop on the brim to hang it up from a hook.

Other times I wear a Montero cap like a non knitted peaked balaclava that rolls up into a nice hat. (pic~)
