After a while, starting a fire just becomes second nature and only a pain when it's been raining for a while. I use rocket stoves now, so even rain isn't too bad really.
Getting enough fats can be pretty difficult if it is the wrong time of year and the area is actually low in fat-containing foods. Seeds and nuts can help, but they are really seasonal. It is best to kill terrestrial animals for fats. Fish are nearly a fat deficit.
