For those of you who spend a lot of time hiking and camping in northeastern USA, what do you do to prepare for situations involving dangerous wildlife?

What are you going to do if you run into a bear or wolf?

They aren't aggressive and even if he would have walked up to you wouldn't have done much of anything. There was no need to scare it off. I frequently let them come up to me and feed it some treats. If it ever became aggressive I could put it down on the spot but my experience with bears is that they're nice and very curious creatures. Scaring it seems a little cruel and stupid.

Midwestern anon here. I've run across tons of coyotes/black bears when /out/ing. Had a 300-ish pound black bear wander into my campsite at 2 am in Allegheny when I was solo camping. Blew my air horn from my tent and it booked it into the woods.

But I always have my 10mm 1911 and an Ar pistol ready to go. Even if black bears are mostly pussies, people have been killed by them. I don't take risks. If a black bear ever was un-deterred by my non-lethal I wouldn't hesitate to mag-dump into it. Better a ticket or some jail time than being mauled.

My old man hunted in Pennsylvania when he was 15 up until my Grandpa passed away. In his 25+ years of hunting he came across 3 different black bears. The first one fucked off, all he had was a 45-70. The other two fucked off because its fucking cold there. Here in Ohio coyotes fuck off naturally unless your outnumbered greatly

the thing you actually need to worry about are moose. They will fuck you up. Also, as long as there isn't a grizzly bear, you're fine. Black-bears are just big dogs, and wolves won't go near you as long as you aren't being retarded.
