The best thing to do is rinse them off well. I prepare a single batch by dumping them in an ice chest and fill it with water. I then drain and repeat until the water runs out clean. *That* is the best way to pre-boil prepare them so you don't get the shits afterward.
Oh, my way to cook - to your boil add 2-3 times more liquid crab boil than it suggests and at least one mesh spice pack every other batch (starting with the first). Boil with onion and lemon (squeeze half then throw in) every batch. After boil, drain batch, toss in newspaper lined ice chest, dump a bunch of Tony's and some Louisana red-dot sauce in and shut the lid. Put the next batch on top and so on for each batch...
