I've been looking in to regional clubs for things like mycology and backpacking and always get referenced to the Sierra Club. However, their website seems to be littered with environmentalist propaganda and activist protesting images. These things do not fall in line with my personal views and I'm quite put off by it. Is there anyone here part of the Sierra Club? Is this basically their nom de plum? Not interested if so.

Do you want a dam in the Grand Canyon? The Sierra Club stopped it! Dioxins and PCBs in your streams? Less so, is the best case we can state... From these achievements, the goals have morphed into the current state. This is as inevitable as it is unstoppable.

Mycology? Read book or internet site. Unfortunately such self directed learning comes at the price of midirection and questioable sources. Console yourself that this is also the case with in person transfer of knowledge.

oh please, there were probably dozen of outdoor groups that did all the legwork and paid out and the Sierra club just slapped their name on the win because shameless self promotion is the only thing they spend money on

“Shameless self promotion” is a fun way of spelling “years long lawsuits in federal and state courts.” The Sierra Club has national resources that enable it to be the forefront of environmental protection in the United States. Do they have their problems? Yeah. But if you’re bitching about environmentalism, I have to ask what you’re doing on the outdoors board?

the sierra club has been bought off and absorbed into the shitlib activism establishment trying to make this a reality. they were bought off by lefty investor (((David Gelbaum))) in the 90s to change their stance on immigration and thus began their journey down the path they currently walk. They're also becoming more and more vocally anti-hunting; the NJ branch has been against the state black bear hunt, essential to keep the bear population from exploding then cratering since the 80s and the rest of the organization seems to be drifting that way. And with (((Mike Bloomberg))) as one of their major donors you bet they're going to be ratcheting up anti gun stuff.
