This is my most immediate issue with it from a purely design standpoint. Otherwise, I've seen videos of what kinds of repair situations Tesla owners find themselves in. One must go to Tesla directly at ridiculous prices in order to keep their warranty, and if they buy parts and install them themselves they also get booted off of the Tesla public charging station network...they simply stop showing up on the built in maps! With money to burn it would make an excellent play vehicle, but they should have made cargo space, what makes a truck a truck, a much higher priority.

Agreed, but this isn't a farm truck and I suspect farm trucks make 10% OR LESS of the actual market! Sadly, many trucks never see dirt.

The bed is 6'6"x5', with no intruding wheel wells. It's actually a big bed.

HOWEVER. It has few tiedowns, the tiedowns look flimsy (slot cuts in the bed wall), no drainage channels, and the angled bedrails with no stake pockets limit or eliminate options for toppers/tonneaus/racks.

Yeah, OK, that's pretty impressive cargo capacity then, really. I'm guessing if the bed material is as tough as the outer body seems then the slots should be pretty sufficient, but I'm just making guesses without seeing it. No drainage channels is a big suck. The Dodge was good to me, but did leave me stranded. More than once. The Chevy was $800 from a coworker who told me the tranny was going out. Needed fluid... :) 3/4 4x4 for $8C, needs an oil cooler hose replaced, but that is minor. S10 is pretty much a dedicated kayak truck.

But everyone I've known to have post 90s Dodge/Chrysler anything have had far too many issues. One of my last was a 98 GMC W/T and I couldn't believe having to deal with the fucking fuel pump being inside the gas tank. And fuck *anything* from throttle body tech on up as far as I'm concerned.

The only issue is that batteries don't last forever. Eventually it will degrade to the point of unusability. The real best SHTF vehicle is one with a diesel engine converted to run on biodiesel. With proper maintenance it'll last forever.

The most reliable one. Being stranded sucks! I had an '85 S10 that had the computer module pop on a San Diego freeway after a several days of being a dick. That was under warranty., but a hassle. The Dodge had an after market ignition cutout installed before I bought in used with 59k miles for $6000. That was an intermittent hell of starting and then out of nowhere, not. Opened the fob and resoldered the absolute shit job on the crkt bd (did not meet IPC Class 1, so...) even after that, the relay under the hood got me and the clutch plate blew going to work, but else a great truck with over 200k miles on it now. The black Chevy is recent and hasn't been a daily driver yet, but at $800+$200 repairs and no rattles, I suspect it will be great. It's my first automatic since my '82 4x4 monster Chevy from back in '95-'01, (2" body lift, 4" axle lift, 35"x15"x12" Ground Hawg tires). The '96 S10 (2nd one, kayak truck) was my back road baby, I have over 220K miles on it, many two track dirt roads, over many counties. Never needed a tow. All my vehicals have been bought used and paid for in full.

Missed that turn off... Would have changed your life, I guarantee it! My first Spyder was a '63 with 44K miles when I got it in '84, I had it for over 25 yrs. I sold it as a "running when parked" basketcase, no rust, a couple yrs after I bought the '62 w/<36k miles barn find, all original above.

When trucks first came out you probably could've credibly argued that the lack of availability of gas compared to feed for your work animals was a deal breaker. Definitely don't get it if the infrastructure isn't there yet in your area, but it is there in many areas by now.

I was comparing the charging speed of a gas pump to a high speed electric car charger. Solar charging is a perk if you're parked for hours to days.

A lot of taxis and busses use CNG or LPG systems, and it's also more common in developing (re: poor) countries. It is cheaper per litre (deal with it, gallonfags), but consumption is higher. An equivalent tank size for gasoline/autogas would result in more frequent fills for the autogas. It has (a little) less oomph than gasoline or diesel, though if you're not offroading in rough terrain or driving up lots of hills, that shouldn't matter.

Of course there's an explosion risk, and autogas is more finicky with temperatures and air pressure, but all that is built into the storage costs.
