you know those ones that you bury and fill with water and the plant roots and soil suck it out from the pours.

now i'm not an agricultural or hydro engineer, but wouldn't the water pressure be too great with something that big, and just oversaturate the soil? you'd have to have some kind of clever regulation system to keep it from seeping too quickly i'd think

ive never used one of these so i cant verify but apparently it somehow self regulates the amount of water that comes out. i wonder if adding something to the water to make it more viscous would slow down the seeping even further though as well as making sure the walls of the pot are a certain thickness.

well in a normal sized pot it self regulates but with something that size you're dealing with a literal ton of water pushing into the soil, which might be a whole new ballgame

Although I'm quite familiar with how water works, I'm not too familiar with how these pot things work, If you're using a fuckhuge pot like the OP picture, I'm assuming you're growing a fucking avocado tree in the Sahara or something so "too much water comes out" is literally the point of the massive size. If your plant doesn't need as much water, use a smaller pot. There isn't really a way to "regulate" infiltration of water through ceramics unless you want to glaze parts of it to make only part of it permeable.

Of course it would work.
But you would have to experiment on how it works in your local climate.
The permeability of the soil, the layer that your intended planting occupies.
If the water leeches out of pot too quickly you could pack wet clay around its bed (tge hole in which the pot sits in) to limit the rate of water loss. Leave a few windows of pot sides uncovered.
It sounds like a great idea, but you will have to explore a few variables
