Well the concept of a meme goes back to ancient Greek philosophy. Meme in its most basic form is an argument where the premise is implied. A joke is just an argument where you try to convince someone of the absurdity of something in order to get them to laugh. So the unique content on any individual internet meme is only half a joke. The other half is hidden in the format of the thing itself, the picture that the text goes over, that context is required to establish a connection between it and the text. The joke relying on half implication appeals to in-group mentality making it that much more effective (plebbit won't understand our memes).

I have been reading freedom of the hills, it's mountaineering orientated but very broad and sound /out/ info. you can get it from libgen or if you want I can post a pdf.
There's also many us army field manuals, everything from orienteering to survival and mountaineering.

I've not personally read it, but I'm pretty sure Mors Kochanski's book would be highly applicable. I think it's the one written by someone who was oriented towards the most similar biome, of the biggies.
