the clearest, darkiest skies I've ever seen were from the desert floor of canyonlands NP. The stars were so bright I actually had to cover my eyes to fall asleep

Took this in upstate NY. You don't have to go super far, drive 2-3hrs away from any large metro area and you'll see a lot of stars.

best stars i've ever seen were at the saddle of saddle road on the big island of hawaii. i thought i'd seen some amazing ones deep in the sierra high country or on desert islands in the sea of cortez, but hawaii was unreal, and i've been chasing it ever since.

ITs weird I spent a bunch of time in bumfuck nowhere Nevada and the skies were honestly disappointing. Best views I’ve ever had were down in south Texas where by all rights they should have been mediocre.
Made no fucking sense, Nevada is higher drier colder and far less densely populated and less developed.
