Im about to buy a REDWING 30 TACTICAL backpack for 120 USD and was wondering if /out/ could tell me if there is a pack of equal quality at a similar pricepoint. Thanks

The regular redwing is cheaper and offers an opening behind the front pocket for rain jackets and other things. Plus it’s lighter. Osprey has good packs around the tactical price point and their warranty is better.

I don't want a huge pack, is the regular one still a good choice? I'll check out Osprey thanks for the advice.

The regular redwing 50 isn't too big I use one as my main backpack. It's quality. Get it on eBay for 80-90 bucks and save sales tax. The tactical versions are heavier material but I wouldn't consider the regular redwing to be light duty. I use mine fairly roughly and it's been fine

I bought my brother in law the 50l pack and it’s pretty roomy and rugged. I started to buy one for myself but the 50l was too big for the load I carry and the price range of the 44 tactical was the same as some of the Ospreys on Amazon. I prefer the warranty that Osprey gives over the Kelty but they’re both nice set ups. Kelty is a favorite among travelers as the aluminum stay on the packs and hip belt are both removable so you can store them overhead on most(MOST) airlines. That being said, I still prefer Osprey.

I have an Osprey and I recommend them too. Got Alpine Lowe, North Face and a few others but I reckon Osprey are the best.

Osprey makes a large assortment of bags ranging from waist packs to multi-day large capacity packs. You really can't beat their warranty...they will fix or replace bags for life.

Second the Redwing 50, it's a good size, not too small, not too big. Pretty comfy and a decent pack for the money. You can get them pretty cheap if you buy it used.

My old Jansport external frame pack from the 80's that survived my boy scout days, I still use it if I need to pack more gear/food or stay longer and my Kelty Redwing 50.

Get what fits what you need, buy quality and it'll last.

I’m the dude that told you to get an osprey(not that that matters). What’s your load weight? Not asking for ultralight purposes. Are you using larger than a 2 person tent? Tent and/or trekking poles? Roll up or inflatable sleeping pad? Camp pillow? Multiple clothing layers? How many days are you going? What temp ranges do you plan to be out on? These things matter. You being 5’6” will affect that slightly. The regular redwing has an adjustable shoulder strap system will help you with stability on your shoulders and back that the tactical won’t adjust on. I say that from experience because of my brother-in-laws Kelty redwing 50. If you’re not buying the traditional 50l then the 44l in either regular or tactical would probably suit you better. While the thicker material is nice in the tactical, it’s not actually necessary.

Think I have a jansport 30 at home that's a lot more robust for wet weather, but the osprey is fine if you're in hot climates
