128oz = 1 gallon. 128oz / 12 hours = 10.6...oz per hour average. Drink 16oz of water and eat a salty snack or meal before the hike, carry 8oz of water during the hike. That will keep you going for at least 2 hours 15 minutes without any troubles or thought of extra water. Which is a comfortable hike.
If you eat too much sugar or fortified starches then you can have water issues where you piss a lot and need to drink a lot of water far beyond normal. Meaning you need to see a doctor and/or change your diet. Which has nothing at all to do with a healthy person.
