You're in the same-ish area as me, so I can tell you that unfortunately there aren't many empty, wild areas on this half of the country. At least not ones you can get seriously fucking lost in.
There are a few options, such as VT, NH, and ME if you really wanna fuck off, but those don't compare to going to Alaska or BC for remoteness. Otherwise, I can recommend going up to the Allegheny National Forest. It's probably gonna be the best you can do.
The outdoorsy type shit here is not as rabid so you aren't gonna find websites where a bunch of half-caf onions latte drinking hipsters have trod and detailed every square-inch of the forest to tell you where the nice little waterfall on the creek is, though. You're gonna have to make friends and ask them, either on-trail or /out/, other forums, etc.
