I recommend Big Bend for star watching (it's famous for it), but just remember that it's near the Mexican border and people cross frequently enough to make it an issue.
>>1664405This is partially true. Plenty of them know the game and want you to pay for access. Most of the ones I've called and asked for access to camp on their land will flat out tell you no. It's a more realistic 3/10. That said, it's usually pretty easy to find someone who knows the owner, or to meet the owner proper, have a couple beers and get invited out for free after some socializing.
