Alright I got some questions for the fishermen in here. I'm planning on getting a 7 foot Ugly Stik Big Water Casting Rod for some saltwater fishing for Blues and Stripers.
First question: Can I put a Spinning Reel on it and use it like that?
Second question: With it being 7 foot would it be nice to use out in the River for trout. In my area we got some big ones in the river so if I would swap reels and have it setup for that type of fishing would it work?

Need help before I buy this rod

From boat, usually a charter or party boat and a blue is a Bluefish. Bunch of them off the shore of Jersey right now.

Well i am unfamiliar with east coast fish, but ill put it like this. If you are fishing the bottom, just stick with the baitcasting reel.

If they are surface fish, use the spinning reel.

Baitcasters are good for soaking bait or trolling because it is easier to adjust and you have a clicker on it. Also you will feel every single hit on your line.

Spinning reels are better for throwing lures because they are easier to cast in general.

As for the river It depends on the same shit as above, but if you fish from shore on a river, long rods are generally a bad idea because it can make it difficult to cast if there are bushes/trees.

You sir have just nailed it, thanks for the answer. For these fish its mainly going to be jigs and lures off the boat and I'll be in the river. I got my microlite for the streams when it gets tight. Thank you!

All rods are designed to be bent in the direction their eyelets face. When you fit a casting rod with a spinning reel, the chances of it breaking are increased, and visa versa. Why wouldnt you just get an Ugly Stick for a spinning reel?

2 things:
1: I thought you needed to have the large eyelet near the reel for a spinning reel?
2: don't the eyelets face different directions for spinning and baitcasting reels?

Look, what was said concerning the difference in rods and how they relate to their corresponding reels is quite literally factual. I stated it precisely before, and could only expand on muh statement by opening muh paint program.

For maximum performance and the avoidance of rod/ fishing trip ruin, choose a spinning rod for your spinning reel and a casting rod for your casting reel.

and yes it does make a difference. If you have spare cash go buy a baitcaster rod and put a spinner on it. POST RESULTS!
