I use an old chunk of hacksaw blade for that. It's really thin but also hardened like crazy which makes it kinda springy and GOAT for throwing sparks.

Muh nigga. Had same idea, bought biggest rod from ebay, made handles, glued the rod and hacksaw in. Its heavy but so much more comfortable to use than than regular sized ones.

The Companion series, including the HD versions, has a crappy rat tail tang which isn't great for batoning.
The regular Companion carbon blade is flexible which is bad for feathering. An HD version might be better for that.
The Craftline series has a superior tang and the Craftline Robust durability seems to be very comparable to those of the Kansbol and Garberg.

mora companion is considered the go-to knife for everything here in Norway, everyone has buckets of them, 1 in the trunk 3 in the kitchen drawer and 14 in a bucket of oil in the garage. it's babbys first knife and more blade than 98% of you will ever need. i personally just don't like the fat bulging grip

I dont know if its the same in other countries but I work in Swedish industry and I carry two of these at all times.

One i keep sharp for doing knife work and one i use as a screwdriver/prybar/spatula etc..

The long strikes are from making shavings for the tinder (usually wet birch). I'm not sure how you use yours with just the tip but pic related is how my old firesteels would look after couple seasons. The dimple is where i would stop applying pressure with striker. Using just the tip is fine if you have some extremely flammable tinder but that's not what you find in the woods, especially in rainy seasons. Also an anniversary edition mora companion for size comparison, its same cheap companion only in different colors made for the 125 year celebration.

Weird fun fact: I went to Estonia recently, very /out/ country, one Estonian soldier was showing some American soldiers how to process wood. This hobby as all hobbies are heavily commercialized now, to pressure you into buying 200$ stuff instead of any cheap work knife. Blades are good, you can pretty easily rehandle it if you want.

I bought this exact knife to leave in my truck. Don't care if it gets stolen or something happens. Good for everything everyone's already mentioned but you don't need to break the bank. Prioritize your spending. I always see people here saying any knife under ~$100 is a waste of money and cheap steel. I buy cheap knives mostly because I don't have much use for them. I spend my money on nice gear like boots and rain jackets because that's what I use most when I go /out/
