Solar is incredibly viable in Aus. I run my house off of 2 small panels, have done for 10 years. When I go camping with my mates 1 small panel runs our freezer/fridge and also charges our phones, torches and bluetooth speakers for the duration of the trip.
Main problem with /out/ in Australia honestly is water and fire. Shit's so fucking dry that even one rogue spark can start a massive bushfire, and there's no fucking water so if you fuck up there's little margin for error.
