Where in NJ OP? I am inclined to help you as I am also a jerseyfag. Use websites/apps like Mountainbike project or trailrun project. Or google obviously.

I also like to use Strava a lot to find popular trails and running areas. The Strava Heatmap is also pretty useful for this.

I bought the subscription and it’s nice having the map offline. You could do it with google maps but it’s easier this way cuz you have trail highlighted. Or just get gg with navigating and google maps downloads

It is indeed a stupid question.
You go to the trail and look at it. You can also search for pictures of it online, if you find them you know it's a bad trail since people go there and take pictures.
