>>1685812native here in TONrez arizona border.
we have a old strip of asphalt near village and its where the old US forestry air transport used to land and pick up many crews of wildland fire fighters . we were the best for time if they needed hardcore Fire-Earth powered elementals type fire crews. (heat and fatigue resistant. work ethic maxed out)
lots of people go out to walk around or run on old track
i used still walk the 2 miles out to see it and hunt or hike near it.
its still shown on airmaps as a landing strip. nowadays its got a border patrol satallite office on the southern end, heli-spot fuel depo etc.
about 16 years ago before it was in use again i was out there and headed home cause getting dark.
and hear a engine up high. am i hearing things?
wait and look. no lights. hear sound again.
wait... see something high up.
a plane coming to land. watching. it lands a propeller type small singlewing.
wow.
two guys get out. nice casual dress, clean.
both blond.
Hello says i. they say hello. Both in heavy german accents.
ask where they are and about gas or hotels where to eat.
tell them its a native rez. one gas station :that way 2 miles across or a little farther if you stay on roads. no hotels. no restraunts really, one place, but its not open all the time by highway. they look at their paper map. how far this how far that, really? how about this?
they are happy fellows, not worried.
they converse to each other in german. than back to me in heavily accented english. they start out in direction of gas place on foot with a briefcase.
hmmm..i start my way home across desert a few miles to home.
get home tell my dad, he listens.
LOL he says why not call police or something.
I say i didnt . later i think oh shit, he though it was the german invasion. Likely Hitlers feild scouts.
