Well, outdoor living implies escaping the rat race, but not the other way around. So I'm thinking either one or the other.

But in general, I see a lot of the threads here and I think these people believe that innawoods stuff is some kind of shortcut to escaping society. I think it's probably harder than other methods.

you realise only the tiniest fraction did what you are describing there? the vast majority of people in the west the past centuries were peasant farmers, then factory workers and then service industry workers. im willing to bet you dont have any forefathers that were anything more than day laborers

I wouldn't recommend doing a complete off the grid unless you've really got the stones and skill for it. Even native americans relied on tribes to make it. If you're just looking for solitude you can usually find low populated areas up north
