What tent does /out/ use?

Looking to buy a new one man tent. Ideally around the £100-£200 mark this is my current tent the Coleman viper now no longer being produced. Its a bit to heavy for a one man tent really I usually just use my tarp but I'd prefer a tent. anyone got any suggestions?

Yea it is. This is my first experience with a tarp and tbh I'm going in blind here with no guidance on what to do once I'm out there. I am very enthusiastic however slept under a tarp several times. the issue is the DD tarp weighs 790g which is fairly heavy for a tarp really its hardly lightweight bacpacking certainly if I take my bivy bag along with it which I usually do.
In its original stuffsack its a bit bulky I however put it into a vango medium compression sack It could probably fit in to a small version. In a compression sack it goes pretty small.
Underneath you can fit probably three people in there and with a good setup it keeps the rain off ya.

I can personally recommend the vango banshee 200, had it for a few years, yeah it's a 2 man tent but it has a tiny pack size, plenty of room, fantastic hydrostatic rating of 5000mm. If you really need a 1 man though get the banshee 100 .

I had the Vango Banshee 200 it worked well very spacious could probably fit in three people in a stretch certainly two and a dog/a lot of gear.
I sold it however I wanted something more compact for canal walks. Furthermore it could have been lighter.

Actually, I sleep on a pad and am more comfortable that way than in the Vue. And, FWIW, northern New Mexico is quite pleasant. There's plenty of room in that tent for one person, BTW, but it would get a bit cramped if you included a big backpack.

yeah, these days I use mine for festivals mostly. If me and the gf are out in the peak or lake district, we're from Manchester, and we want something lighter and more compact if the weather is good, then I can recommend blacks octane tents. Lighter than the vango, easier to setup, BUT not as waterproof, 3000mm rating, so it is a trade off. Though we've experienced some pretty shitty weather in ours and we were just fine. It's also not cheap, though it is in the sale at the minute for £100 online. I used to work at blacks years ago so I got a great deal on mine. Would I pay full price of 150? Nah, but 100? Yeah I would.

Do you have any idea what a roll mat is? Therma-rest make excellent inflatable mats that go between you and the ground, it's like sleeping on a soft mattress.

Haven't tried that one i'm afraid, i've got the trail lite. Its very light and very warm, but it doesn't pack down as small as some of the newer models like the z lite. I've seen the z lite in stores and it's a brilliant looking mat, so unbelievably light. But I wouldn't get one because even though it does pack smaller and is about half the weight of the trail lite, it has a much lower r-value. If you're camping in the summer thats not a problem, but im sort of person who'd sooner have a jack of all trades type of air mat, than a few different ones that performed better in different seasons. Though with z lites being about 30/40 quid these days maybe I should stop being a stingy bastard and buy one haha

It's not really a clear picture, the ridgerest has an r-valve of 3.5 which for a mat of it's thickness is excellent! But my gf's trail light has a r-valve of 4.9 I have a trail pro which is about the same. So based of that it sounds like my mat is better than the one in the video right? Well, it's not as clear as that. For a mountain climbing situation the weight and size are huge factors, the ridgerest is lighter and packs much smaller. But it's still not as insulative you might ask. That's true, but when camping on a mountain you'll be using a much higher grade of sleeping bag to compensate, and more importantly you'll be fully clothed mostly likely. You'll have maybe 3 layers of clothing, a down sleeping bag and an air mat between you and the ground, so that lower r-value isn't the end of the world.

I use some goofy ass thing that looks more or less like this without the rain fly. I don't camp that much so I have used it on 10 trips in just about as many years. When my dad bought it for me I must have been around 12 years old and I'm 25 now and it has never ripped or failed to keep bugs and water off of my short of user error. The last few times I used it, enough water condenses on the inside and drips onto my face by around 3am like clockwork if I'm anywhere even remotely chilly.

I need to use it again soon...

it's very light, and packs very small. but I'll be fucked by a whale before I buy another racing tent. thing's a pain in the ass to set up and is worthless in the alpine (not that a 3 season tent should be capable)

I hear Terra Nova make good tents superlightweight and all that. I'm OP and the coleman viper is 2.1kg bit heavy for a one man tent really I could get more space for less weight.

Used a Norwegian Bergans Compact light 2 in Iceland, basically a Hilleberg Namaj copy. It did work out very well and did withstand heavy storms. Price is around 240€.

You know what's funny, I use a $20 youth tent bought from wal mart. I've used it for a couple years and it's perfect for one person and a backpack. I've even used it during the winter with a warm sleeping bag. I honestly don't see the need to get anything else.

My dad was really into hiking when I was younger but he has had hip surgery twice so can't hike anymore now... Anyway he gave me the tent (600$?) a bergans alpinist and some fly-fishing rods when I started taking an interest for it
