Do you think the government should stop everyone from going and only allow you, because you want to experience it with less people? What makes you so special compared to anyone else? The only solution would be a permit system, which many parks already have. Unless you’re proposing even less permits and therefore less access to parks

I don't think yuropeans understand how large the US really is. It's about the same size as Europe including Russia to the Urals, the difference is Europe has over 740 million ppl and the US has over 330 million ppl. Some US national parks are larger than some European countries. Go in the back country of even the most visited large national parks and there's literally no one around. Good examples are North Rim Grand Canyon and the back country of Yellowstone. While Alaska's national parks are pretty much all wilderness anyway.

Let's not fool ourselves and pretend that most americans go to Alaska on a regular basis or go there at all. It's as accessible to a floridan as it is to an Icelander or bong faggot. Just as easy can a Greek can be in Scotland or a Finn go to Madeira island.

The US still has far rugged lands and less people which is great but then you too have permits to be on national parks (sure there's national forests, blm and state land) and as far as I know none of that happens in Europe.

I would love to /out/ in the US, or Canada for that matter, but it's a very shortsighted view to diminish the whole Europe as a lesser /out/ place.

I went to Yellowstone last year. Yes, the main areas are very crowded, but when you start hiking into the deeper woods you'll see barely anyone. The fact is, the national parks belong to everyone and everyone has the right to use them. But honestly, if you take your lard ass away from the main scenic views, you'll see no one. Also, consider a backcountry permit.

This isn't just the us, anywhere near a metropolitan area you get massive crowds of people who won't get 50m from the road. In Algonquin park North of Toronto it's not uncommon to see groups of 20+ Asians parked at the side of the road looking at a moose and not a km away there's a completely empty trail because none of them brought shoes suitable for slightly wet ground. It's the same thing with fishing and hunting if you can park your car less than a half km away it's basically guaranteed to be shit.

If you can’t “truly enjoy” the parks because they are “so crowded” then either plan to go when/where it’s not so crowded or ask yourself why you are letting other people hold such power over you. I don’t enjoy the crowds but I go to Yellowstone and Grand Teton every summer and I fucking love it. I plan around the peak times and the busiest areas so that I don’t have to deal with as many people. But, if I do get stuck in a bison jam or a crowd of people I don’t let it ruin my day. Men are supposed to have some sort of self-control and self-discipline and be able to endure unpleasant things from time to time. Or you could just seethe like a little bitch. The choice is yours.

Not him but he's right. In the mid '80s I could drive to Yosemite on a Friday or Saturday and always find a camping spot. In the early '90s my wife and I regularly went up to Zion NP on a Friday night and again always found an empty campsite.

Try going to some of your state's parks. There's plenty in Western PA and it's almost never crowded like that.

Don't know where you're from but go find a small town near a state park and then ask the locals about the good spots they go to. That's how I found out about Lynn Run State Park and Beam's Rocks in Forbes State Forest.

i went to yellowstone late july and getting there at 7 am was early enough to have the trial all to myself. also just going to a trail outside the park is fine. i was on this massive trail all day a half hour outside ytellowstone and only saw like 4 people

I literally went to Zion today and it was fucking empty aside from Angels Landing. Felt like I had the rest of the park to myself. These threads are awful.

My girlfriend and I went to California last September. Sequoia/kings Canyon and Yosemite were busy, especially Yosemite which seemed a bit like Universal Studios to be honest; especially in the valley.

But, when you factor in the old people, people with kids and the lazy if you go on even one of the shorter trails the crowds significantly thin out after about 1 or 2 km. It’s definitely possible to enjoy them, and from the perspective of a Brit it was the vest of both worlds; Smokey the bear, snow globe, gift shop, theme park cliched Americanana on the one hand, and amazing nature on the other. I’d 100% recommend it.
