How do you guys store sammies in your pack so they don’t get crushed. The ziploc container on the left works good but is a little big. The ziploc bag on the right obviously offers no protection at all and you’ll end up with a sandwich pancake by lunch time.

Im weird, so I like cold soggy squished egg sandwhiches. So i use baggies. Not sure you will find any thing lighter than the ziploc containers. If you want less bulky but heavier there are collapsible containers.

I think I have enough shit on the outside of my pack now. But that’s not a terrible idea for lighter loads if I could find a small box with a hole for a caribeaner

Yes. But a 12 inch sub, place in top of pack. Cut cutty, chew chewy, wrap wrapy, eaty later.
I suggest pastrami and swiss on marbled rye/sourdough. It's delicious.

Use a sturdy man's bread that has some structure, like (((bagels))) or a nice heavy rye, not soft, effete, whitebread white bread. As a bonus real bread also actually has some nutrtional value. Also, pack the tomatoes whole and slice them when you're ready to eat so the juice doesn't make everything soggy.

I actually found a cool recipe that uses the crushing to make it better.

Long story short, use ciabatta buns, and tear a little of the inside out of the bread before you make them. That way, the crushing of the sandwich doesn't hurt it, and it kind of makes it more enjoyable.

However, I only consider sandwiches as an option for the first day of hiking. Shit can get warm in there, and I don't want to eat meat or cheese that's been sitting warm in a damp and dark backpack for more than a few hours.

Use ingredients that won't spoil or that won't spoil separately. Hard meat and cheese. Tuna packet and mayo packets will be warm in "a hot and moist backpack" but safe to eat. Things that don't require refrigeration, it's very simple.

Why is your backpack moist btw, was it raining?

I'm in Texas, and a lot of the days and nights that I go camping will have wide temperature swings, and with as humid as it frequently gets, that creates condensation. Shit gets everywhere, unless you seal everything up. I know there are solutions; I just don't like adding the weight and the trash of a bunch of ziplocks and shit. I wrap my sandwich or two in some clear wrap that crumples up well for space, and I go on my merry way.

I am aware that you can use other types of meat and cheeses. I just don't always want to use them that trip.

I appreciate the advice, but my intent was just to offer a single option that can be fun; doesn't mean it's the only way to do it.

I like interesting a simple solutions for camping logistics. One anon recommended carrying a frozen steak with his cold food-stuffs, that would keep them cool while thawing slowly. By night or the next morning, you have a steak that's ready to cook perfectly. It seems obvious to a lot of folks who have been /out/ for some time, but not everybody thinks of it.

Simple, but effective.

That does work good, even with frozen sausage and hash browns patties.

There's store in cold stream. Watertight bag inside another that's weighted and tied to a tree. I tried it with chicken and it kept it cold. Although I suddenly remember seeing a video about alligator gar, this might not work in Texas.
