There's no perfect state. Hawaii would be pretty damn close if not for the constant threat of earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones and volcanic eruptions. And California would be up there if it wasn't so damn crowded with people.

I can assure you there are few to no fat plebs overnighting in the Glacier backcountry. 90% of tourists drive the Sun road and then stay in a hotel nearby, or maybe one of the developed campgrounds.

I visited last summer, and I have to say, this is pretty much objective fact. California and western Nevada are the GOAT. Incredible variety, amazing dry weather, and huge swathes of public land. Even with the crowding, it's still based as fuck.

nah, just pussy nw parks. all the big califonia ones are totally opened to dispersed camping. only reg is you have to be at least 4 miles from the trailhead. plus campfires are allowed year round (except in the very high alpine regions), unlike wilderness.
